1917

MECHELININKATU WAS NAMED AFTER A PIONEER OF FINNISH CIVILISATION, LIBERAL THINKING AND FORERUNNER OF INTERNATIONAL IDEOLOGY, LEO MECHELIN.

ST. MARY'S HOSPITAL, FOUNDED IN THE 1800S, ENDED ITS OPERATIONS
IN 2014. THE REGION IS BEING DEVELOPED INTO THE LARGEST GROWTH BUSINESS CAMPUS IN NORTHERN EUROPE.

The photo shows the courtyard of Maria's hospital in the 1960s. The wild vines were planted immediately after the buildings were completed in 1908.
